Another Cup win for Windfarm Eiscir

WINDFARM Eiscir was at his best in beating some of the  fancied runners to win the James Curran Memorial Cup for 16 all ages at the Regional Coursing meeting last Sunday.
Unlucky at the opening meeting of the season in Liscannor,  the son of Behhill Eoin-Windfarm Lady, trained by Pat Curtin for Ennis owner, Claire Eustace, made no mistake on this occasion. In winning his third all-age cup of his career the hard way, he reversed the result of his last clash with Marie Field’s Kyle Basil who beat him narrowly in the first round of the Classics Club Champion Stakes in Clonmel last February.
Accounting for the Inagh-owned Up Our Day by four lengths in his first round, Windfarm Eiscir now faced a tough course against the long odds cup favourite and Derry owned Central Creator. In a tight buckle, he survived with a half-length win.
He went to slips with Kyle Basil in the opening semi-final and again went about his business, getting the flag with two lengths to spare. In the other semi-final, the locally owned Breska Rovers (Bexhhill Great White) recorded a one-length win over Sandyman Bolt.
Again running very well in the final, Windfarm Eiscir had a winning distance of two lengths over Breska Rovers. His connections were delighted with the performance and are hoping that this will open the way  for another crack at Clonmel.

Death of popular coursing man

THE South Clare Coursing Club recently lost a great friend and supporter through the sudden death of Michael Gallagher, at his home in Brisla, Cooraclare on September 10. In his early 80s, he was a former chairman of the club and was still involved in promoting it.
He helped the club in many ways and in more recent years, was at the gate on coursing days to meet and greet people with his familiar smile.
A native of Brisla where he farmed, he was proud of his stock and produce from the farm. He was also a great community man  and gave his time unsparingly to various activities in aid of Cooraclare parish.
There was a huge turnout of coursing people and friends at the removal of his remains from Carey’s Funeral Home, Cooraclare to the local church and again at the mass and funeral to Kilmacduane cemetery. A guard of honour was provided by members of the South Clare Coursing Club.
His is survived, his wife, Mary; daughters, Anne, Josephine, Breda and Olivia, brothers, Paddy (Cork) and Tommie (Cooraclare); sister, Theresa O’Gorman (Cloncullen) and extended family.
