Another big turnout for open track series

Clare Athletics Association open track and field series (day two) was held at the Lees Road Sports Complex, with another fine turnout of athletes from Loughrea, Galway City Harriers, Craughwell and all the Clare clubs braving the very wet and windy conditions.

In the junior ladies, Emer Hillery (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) recorded victories in the 200m, 400m, long jump and 35lbs for distance, Michelle Timmoney Rees (Ennis Track), in the masters O-35, won all four events, 200m, 400m, 3000m and 35lbs for distance, Hilda O’Connor (Ennis Track) in the O-40s also captured four gold medals in 200m, 400m, 3,000m and 35lbs for distance and Margaret Lafferty (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) won the O-50s 35lbs for distance.
In the junior men’s Ruan Rooker (Shannon) won the 200m and long jump, with Cian O’Brien (Marian) taking the 400m. Aidan Kearney (Ennis Track) was very impressive, winning the 5,000m, with Seamus McMahon (Shannon) winning the javelin and 35lbs for distance.
There was a double victory for Peter O’Sullivan (Craughwell) in the senior men’s 5,000m and 400m while in the masters men’s O-35s, victory went to Willie Devitt (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) in the 5000m, with Jason Moloney (Ennis Track) taking the 400m and Brian Spring (Ennis Track) recording a treble with victories in the 200m, javelin and long jump.
In the masters O-40s, Tom Geraghty (Marian) won the 200m and 5,000m and in the O-45s Richard McArthur (St Cronan’s) won the 200m, 400m and the long jump, with Martin Fitzpatrick (St Mary’s) taking gold in the O-50s javelin and 35lbs for distance.
