Another award for Hickey

ENNIS man Rory Hickey was the sole Clare referee honoured at the National Referees’ Awards night at Croke Park last Saturday.

The Éire Óg clubman was honoured for refereeing the drawn All-Ireland club football final on St Patrick’s Day between Crossmaglen from Armagh and Garrycastle from Westmeath.

On Saturday, he took charge of the Clare U-21A football final between Clondgad (winners) and Ennistymon at Corofin, before travelling to Dublin for the national function.

Rory will be on the road again this Saturday when he travels to Killarney for the Munster GAA annual function where he will be honoured for refereeing last year’s provincial club championship final.

He will be one of a number of Clare people to be honoured at the function. Ballyea’s Tony Kelly will receive the U-21 Hurler of the Year Award for the province, while it’s understood the joint managers of that team, Gerry O’Connor and Donal Moloney, are also to be honoured.
