THE doors of the Tulla Stables Studio will be open to the public this Sunday afternoon, with a display of ceramics, jewellery, paintings, printmaking, textiles and sculpture.
The open studio coincides with the Tulla Traditional Music Festival. Live music will be played in the courtyard by local musicians and people are also welcome to bring along their instruments and join in the entertainment.
A spokeswoman for the studio said that since last year, the artists have been exhibiting their work both locally and abroad, including venues in Killaloe, Kilkenny, at the Iniscealtra Festival of Arts and in Canada.
One of the artists who is featured in the studio is Katja Wittmer, a mixed-media artist who emphasises emotional extremes in her work. She will be hosting her upcoming solo exhibition in Germany this October. Kathleen Moroney, another artist involved with the studio, is a ceramic artist who has worked on site-specific commissions both in the US and in Ireland. She has taken up a residency this summer in Japan.
The open studio will also feature some of the work of Ian Castles, who has concentrated this year on woodcarving to highlight issues such as sustainability and the value of local woodlands in the face of growing environmental and economic threats. Another featured artist is JJ Moroney, a goldsmith who makes silver, gold and platinum jewellery, which can be seen at his studios. While Melanie Jones, a textile artist and printmaker, is exploring the world of colour through plants on fabric.
A new artist involved in the studios is Blaithín Ní Leannain. She works in clay and her pieces range from functional to non-functional fine art sculpture.
The open studio runs from 2 to 6pm.
