Allotments may be made available

IF there is sufficient interest among Kilrush people to grow organic food, Kilrush Town Council would consider allocating a number of plots to them, councillors heard recently.

The matter was raised at the October meeting of the town council by Councillor Tom Clyne.
“Kilrush Town Council would consider investigating making allotments available subject to identifying a suitable location,” town clerk John Corry replied.
“A decision would also need to be made regarding the area to be given to each allotment. Clare County Council made allotments available in Shannon and there was great interest in the idea. The allotments’ users pay an annual charge to the council and sign an annual lease agreement,” Mr Corry added.
He also noted Clare Local Development Company currently use a plot beside Nagles Terrace in the town. The allotment is owned by Kilrush Town Council.
