All-square between Kilmihil and O’Curry’s

Kilmihil 0-10
O’Curry’s 1-7

Paul Reidy converted a free in the final minute of normal time for Kilmihil to tie up this intermediate championship first-round football tie with O’Curry’s at Doonbeg on Saturday.

In the end, a share of the spoils was a fair result in a game that both sides were guilty of missed chances. O’Curry’s will probably feel the more disappointed as they were guilty of the greater number of misses but they were fortunate to be just a point adrift at the mid-point.
The peninsula outfit made the better start and took the lead with a point from Eoin Troy before Mark O’Connell and Timmy Ryan had Kilmihil points.
Ger Quinlan and Troy replied for O’Curry’s but four in a row from Martin O’Leary, Mark O’Connell, David Ryan and Paul Reidy had Kilmihil 0-6 to 0-3 ahead as half-time approached.
A Ger Quinlan effort was deflected into the path of Damian Carmody, who found the net for the game’s only goal, which tied up the game but Kilmihil had the final say of the half when Timmy Ryan pointed to leave the half-time score at 0-7 to 1-3.
On the resumption, Eoin Troy equalised for O’Curry’s but Kilmihil went back in front with points from Shane Egan and Martin O’Leary as the end of the third quarter approached.
Two Ger Quinlan efforts tied up the game again before Brian Troy put O’Curry’s in front with six minutes remaining.
Troy then picked up a second yellow card, which led to his dismissal with three minutes to go. Two minutes later, they were level for the final time when Paul Reidy slotted the equaliser from a free.
