AER Rianta seeks voluntary redundancies

AER Rianta International (ARI) is seeking voluntary redundancies from its staff at Shannon.

In a statement on Wednesday, a spokesman for the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA), of which ARI is a subsidiary, said, “Due to the change in market dynamics and a reduction in the level of activity required in Shannon to support its overseas operations, ARI has re-opened a voluntary severance scheme for its Shannon-based staff.”
ARI’s head office is at Shannon and 51 people are employed there, although the number was 77 in the summer of 2008. The spokesman said that it doesn’t have any target for the number of redundancies.
When asked if there is a possibility of pay cuts or compulsory redundancies, he said, “Our hope would be that we can make the required cost savings through a voluntary severance scheme.”
Nine members of staff left under a previous redundancy scheme.
A number of the staff are members of SIPTU but no representative of the trade union was available for comment on Wednesday.
ARI operates duty-free outlets abroad and holds minority investments in a number of airports. Its overseas operations employ about 3,500 staff directly and indirectly around the world.
