A Wake goes wide for Wild Swans

GORT’S Wild Swan Theatre company are to bring their comedy A Wake in the West to Ennistymon’s Teach Ceoil this Saturday night. The company are also going to be bringing the show to San Francisco for St Patrick’s Day week.

Austin McInerney of the Wild Swans said that the comedy production would provide a little relief from the prevailing doom and gloom.
The play got a great reception in Gort. “Our usual run is for four nights, and it would always sell fairly well and Saturday and Sunday might sell out. This time we had so much demand that we did four more the following week and those also sold out. We did another night and that sold out. We went to Glór then and that sold out, which was amazing for a small group.”
The play got such a good reception that an invite was made for them to go to the US.
“Aonghus McCarthy is a gentleman from Gort and he has been living out in San Francisco for years. When he was home his mother and his wife went to see A Wake in the West and they loved it. He said he would try and get us out to San Francisco. When I heard it I thought it was nuts. But we looked at our balance and we had a good run and over the years our costs have reduced as we went along. We said we could afford it and everyone said that we’d go.”
He said that arrangements are well in place for the trip to San Francisco. “We’re booked in for St Patrick’s week and a float has been arranged for us in the parade on March 12. There’s also going to be a civic reception after the parade. We’re going to be there for a week and we’re going to do two nights.”
Tickets will be sold at the door of Teach Ceoil on Saturday night and the play will commence at 8.30pm.
