FEAKLE-Killanena captured their first Clare U-15A Championship title when they accounted for Kilmaley at Clarecastle on Sunday.
The sides were evenly matched in the opening half when points were traded on a number of occasions. Enda Noonan (Feakle-Killanena) and Sean Kennedy, from Kilmaley, picked off some great scores during this period at the end of which the sides were level at 0-6 each.
Kilmaley made a great start to the second half with Pádraig McNamara goaling in the opening minute. They tried hard to push on from there but they struggled to breakdown a physically stronger Feakle-Killanena defence.
The East Clare combination came storming back when Cathal Noonan’s quickly taken free found Martin Daly who crashed the ball to the net. Team captain Stephen Conway followed with a point and a goal from Cathal Noonan put them in the driving seat.
Best for the winners were Cathal Linnane, Martin Daly, Enda and Cathal Noonan and Stephen Conway, while Kilmaley’s best were Tommy Barry, Jack Lynch, Sean Kennedy, Padraig McNamara and Sean Malone.
After the game, Bord na nÓg chairman Martin Reynolds presented the cup to the winners captain Stephen Conway.
