Delight for Clare village with €50k regeneration allocation

THERE was a broad welcome in Clare today for the allocation of €50,000 to Corofin under the latest round of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The money will go towards a property feasibility study and streetscape enhancement plan; defining new use for an existing derelict building; public realm improvements and improvements to the tourist experience through signage strategy.

The allocation is part of an overall €850,000 from the Department of Rural and Community Development to support 19 rural regeneration projects across the country.

“Today’s allocation of funding to the village of Corofin is the culmination of many months of hard work by the locals in the community,” said Deputy Cathal Crowe.

“I’ve been out to visit the local residents and business owners and have seen first-hand the work that they’ve been doing, as well as their ambitious plans for the area.

“I want to commend my colleague, Councillor Joe Killeen, who has been instrumental in leading this project and bringing it to fruition. I very much look forward to seeing what is to come for this community.”

Deputy Joe Carey also welcomed the funding saying, “This builds on the €734,000 allocated to County last week under the main Town and Village Renewal Scheme, and is also designed to complement the work of the Towns Centre First Strategy.

“The local authority can use this latest funding towards significant, well developed projects which might be subsequently progressed to construction stage, and is subject to the availability of further funding.

“This new round of funding places particular emphasis on planning and design for more substantial projects to support remote working, in addition to tackling vacancy and dereliction in towns and enhancing town centre living.
