A TOTAL of €731,000 was this week allocated to 22 sports clubs in Clare from the Sports Capital funding grants.
Grants ranging from €3,000 to €80,000 will help clubs across the county to improve their facilities.
Miltown Malbay St Joseph’s GAA Club is to receive €80,000 which, according to development chairman John Reidy, is earmarked for the installation of a top of the range floodlighting system.
“The current lighting system we have isn’t good enough for the staging of games,” the former county board and Munster Council officer explained. He added that planning permission has already been secured for this project.
Kilmaley GAA Club will also receive €80,000. According to club chairman Conor Clancy, the grant “will enable us to proceed ahead with our ambitious field development project, which has been stalled for the past six months due to lack of funding”. Scariff GAA is to receive €35,000. This, according to secretary Mike Moorney, is earmarked for the upgrading of the club’s second pitch, known as Craven’s Field.
Neighbours Broadford is to receive a similar amount which, according to secretary Kevin Ryan, will be used to help enclose the pitch Glenomra Park, as well as upgrading the ball alley.
