35,000 litres of fuel seized

Nearly 35,000 litres of fuel was seized from a South Galway filling station at the weekend as part of a joint Revenue and garda operation. Revenue officers, along with gardaí in the area, executed a search warrant on the premises on Saturday afternoon, seizing 34,500 litres of fuel.
The Finance Act, 1999 requires all mineral oil traders who produce, sell, deliver or deal in, or on, any premises, mineral oil for use for combustion in the engine of a motor vehicle, to take out a Mineral Oil Trader’s Licence. The licensing year runs from July 1 to June 30 and the licence will expire on June 30 of each year, regardless of the issue date.
The Office of the Revenue Commissioners confirmed to The Clare Champion that an investigation is continuing.
