The well-attended North Clare Show in Corofin was hailed as one of its best since its founding in the 1940s. The continued glorious weather brought out the crowds to savour a myriad of classes in the indoor and outdoor sections of the show.

Life and death of Wild Bill Hickok

POKER players will know the card hand of two aces and two eights as the ‘Dead Man’s Hand’. It was the hand that Wild Bill Hickok was playing in a saloon in Deadwood City, South Dakota, when he was shot in the back by a man named Jack McCall. There is no mention of what the fifth card was.

Wrafter sculpts hurling heritage celebration

A CLARE man has been commissioned to create a sculpture that will celebrate Kilkenny’s hurling heritage.Of course, Kilkenny have dominated the game for years now, winning eight of the last ten All-Irelands but the piece is not to commemorate this generation per se.
