Cusack’s penalty proves decisive

Second Division Coole FC 0   Ruan United 1 IN this second-division clash, Ruan took the three points to go level with Coole at second place in the league table. Thiago Morais flashed a shot wide of the post on 10 minutes and then Ruan’s keeper made a fine save from a Wayne Walsh shot from the edge of the box five minutes later. As the game approached half-time, Ruan were awarded a penalty and Barry Cusack fired home the all-important score.

Senan’s ease relegation worries

St Senan’s 20   Galbally 16 St Senan’s hosted Galbally at Jimmy Slattery Park last weekend. Galbally got off to a good start when they got two early penalties. They were pegged back when Senan’s attacked and were stopped short of the line. The ball was fed out to Brian Collins, who kicked a lovely drop goal.

With the National Camogie League beginning in February the Clare senior team has been back in training for some time. Over the last couple of weeks the team has played a number of challenge games as part of their preparations.

New ladies football chairman but AGM adjourned

Davy Browne was elected chairman of the Clare Ladies Football County Board at their annual convention on Friday in the West County Hotel, Ennis. The Doonbeg club man succeeds Alan Copley, who stood down after one year in the post due to work commitments. However, the AGM will resume again next Monday night at 8pm at the same venue to complete the election of officers.

Good start to new year events

2013 has started brightly for Clare athletes. The Munster senior and junior cross-country championships, plus the juvenile inter-county relays for U-10, U-12 and U-14, at Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell last weekend brought plenty to cheer about.

Hospital delivers €1m windfall to Ennis Town Council

PLANS for a private hospital in Ennis have been given the green light this week by Ennis Town Council. But there’s a sting in the tail for the developers of  the proposed €60m facility on the site of the former Our Lady’s Psychiatric Hospital, as they will have to make a €1m contribution to the council.
