Young athletes gather at Lees Road

  THE Clare Community Games cross country U-10  4 x 250m relays and U-13 1,200m cross country were held at a very sunny Lees Road Sports Complex on Saturday. There was great excitement among the competitors, especially those making their Community Games debut. The first five boys and five girls will make up the county team to participate in the national finals in Athlone in May. Sixteen areas were represented at the Clare finals. The girls’ U-10 relay title was won by Ennis St John’s from Silmilebridge/Kilmurry with Miltown Malbay third followed by Quin/Clooney. The boys’ title went to Ennistymon/Liscannor from Ballynacally/Lissycasey with Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry in third spot followed by Quin/Clooney. Caoimhie Hogan (Ennistymon/Liscannor) won the girls’ U-13 cross country with Ennis St John’s taking the team title. Caoilfhionn O’Dea (Kilmurry-Ibrickane) won the boys’ U-13 title and Miltown Malbay captured the team title for the second year in-a-row.ResultsGirls’ U-13 (1,200m): 1. Consequential win for Flanagan

The spotlight was on Ennistymon owner-trainer Tom Flanagan, Russa, at the Galway Greyhound Racing Stadium on Saturday night after his Consequential won the top race of the night, the St Michael’s GAA A3-graded 525 final.

Huge turnout expected for Hurley-Hoey Memorial

WHILE up to 2,000 walkers and runners are expected to descend on St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield’s GAA complex in Gurteen for the Eilish Hurley – Ger Hoey Memorial Walk/Run on Saturday from 2pm, a sister event in Sydney has also attracted huge interest.

Dalcash dog among qualifiers

Dalcash Skywise (Skywalker Ace-Dalcash Divinsky) owned by Miltown Malbay native Fr Jack Meade, Rockwell College, is still in the hunt for honours in the GMHD Juvenile Classic at the Tralee Greyhound Racing Stadium.He finished third in his opening-round heat on Friday night.
