Defence inspires Clare to first league points

Clare 0-18Galway 1-13 TWO weeks ago, Clare’s league hopes were seriously dented but they bounced right back into contention by defeating Galway in Round 2 at bitterly cold Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon.Make no mistake about it, this was a merited win for Clare even if Galway will point to a number of missed chances throughout the tie. Clare displayed the greater determination and hunger for victory on the day and were never in arrears.

Tulla take control in second half

  St Joseph’s, Tulla 4-16Scariff CC  0-8 The scoreline suggests a runaway victory for St Joseph’s, Tulla, in the Clare Colleges Senior Hurling final at Bodyke on Tuesday afternoon and, while St Joseph’s justified favouritism with a win, it was tighter than the scoreline suggests. At half-time just three points separated the teams with the new champions leading, 0-7 to 0-4. At the end of the opening quarter, Tulla were ahead 0-2 to 0-1 with the Scariff half-back line of Cathal Madden, John Scanlon and Donal McNamara doing well The introduction of Justin Nelson and fine hurling from the Tulla midfield team of captain Oisin Donnellan and Con Smyth kept the scoreboard ticking over but there was some concern amongst supporters when they were only three points in front at the break after playing with the aid of the breeze. Football leagues start this weekend

LAST year’s Cusack Cup champions Kilmurry Ibrickane, will renew acquaintance with St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield on Friday at 7.30pm in Gurteen in round one of The Clare Champion Cusack Cup. The clubs met in last year’s Cusack Cup final and in the 2011 and 2012 senior championship finals. Kilmurry Ibrickane have won all finals, including last year’s O’Gorman Cup decider.

Tulla celebrate All-Ireland success

St Joseph’s, Tulla 2-16Scoil Mhuire, Trim 3-6 ST Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla, won the Senior D Post Primary Schools All-Ireland final defeating Scoil Mhuire of Trim in St Brendan’s Park, Birr, home to the first All-Ireland hurling final, on Saturday.
