Broadford and the ’Bridge share the spoils

  Broadford   4-1 Sixmilebridge  4-1 BROADFORD and Sixmilebridge shared the spoils in their U-14 game last Thursday evening in O’Callaghan’s Mills. Broadford had the opening score with a goal from Aoife O’Brien and followed up with a second, before the ’Bridge pulled one back before the interval. Sixmilebridge fought back to level the game in the second half. The two sides were evenly matched throughout. Broadford, with goals from Aoife O’Brien and Moya Marsh McMahon and a point from Niamh Powell, were ahead by a goal with two minutes to go. Injury-time winner for Coolmeen-Kildysart

Coolmeen-Kildysart 2-8 Lissycasey 1-10 The U-16B football semi-final between neighbours Coolmeen-Kildysart and Lissycasey provided great excitement at Kilmihil last Thursday evening.The result was in doubt right to the final whistle and Ben Cleary kicked the winning point in injury time to send the combination through to the decider.Lissycasey started brightly with a penalty goal from Padraic McNamara in the opening minutes. Coolmeen-Kildysart responded with some excellent play and created scoring chances that Ben Cleary converted. After a great passing movement, Barry Crehan goaled to leave the half-time score at 1-5 to 1-4 in favour of Lissycasey. The second half continued in the same manner, with play flowing from one end of the field to the other. The crucial score came when Coolmeen-Kildysart were awarded a penalty, which Rory McMahon calmly dispatched to the net. Lissycasey levelled the game with a point to set up a grandstand finish. In the centenary club classic at Portumna at the weekend, the winners were Stephen Madden (14), Pat Healy (12), John Lyons (18) and Rory Kennedy (18) (Portumna), with 97 points from James Porter (12), Joe Slattery (14), Gerry Madden (13) and Ronan Madden (13) (Portumna), with 94. In third spot with 93 points were Anne Fahy (16), Bríd Kelly (23), Pauline McEvoy (26), (Portumna) and Raymond Moloney (17) (Curra West) followed by Michael Kennedy (13), Basil Kennedy (8), Michael Flanagan (20) and Sean Whelan (12) (Portumna), also with 93. Moher’s title after penalty shoot-out

  Moher Celtic 0  Newmarket Celtic 0(After extra time Moher won 4-2 on penalties) Moher Celtic were crowned U-17 Cup champions at the County Grounds in Doora at the weekend when they won a penalty shoot-out with Newmarket Celtic.The sides were scoreless at the end of normal time and extra-time.Both did create a number of scoring chances but good defences allied to some poor shooting meant there were no goals from open play.Defences were generally on top but Moher had two great chances. They were awarded a penalty as early as the fifth minute but Sean Noonan’s effort was saved by ­Cathal Finnucane in the Newmarket goal. Melody’s Diamond continues to sparkle

THE unbeaten Melody’s Diamond continues to dominate the Roche’s Feeds Oaks at the Limerick Greyhound Racing Stadium.Posting the fatest time for the third weekend in-a-row, the Declan Byrne-trained son of Royal Impact-Talita Beauty was drawn in trap four in the first semi-final heat last Saturday night. However, unlike in her earlier heats, she was crowded out at the opening bend and was fourth behind Dooey Cranky down the far side. Trap-one runner, Locnamon Bridie had gone in front by the third bend but the brilliant Melody’s Diamond chased her and in a great finish won by a short head in 28.42 for owners Pat Ciollins and Patsy Byrne, Ballylongford. The runner-up was Locnamon Bride and third home was Dooey Cranky, three lengths back. The fine effort by Ocean Maeve, owned by Tom Fitzgerald, Parteen, ended in the second semi-final heat.
