Cratloe keep their play-off hopes alive

Cratloe 1-17   Broadford 0-9 Cratloe were comfortable winners over Broadford in the Clare Champion Cup Division 1A tie at Cratloe on Sunday and remain very much in contention for a place in the competition semi-finals. Flanagan hits winner for Ballyea

Ballyea 0-11   Ruan 0-10 Ballyea recorded their third victory in a row in the Clare Champion Cup with a hard-earned win over Ruan in Ruan on Sunday. In a fairly even first half, points from Martin O’Leary and Gearóid O’Connell put their side 0-2 to 0-1 ahead after 10 minutes while two frees from Niall Deasy helped the visitors to stay with their opponents, who were playing with the assistance of a strong wind.

Clarecastle storm into Division 3 final

Clarecastle 1-25   Newmarket 1-11 A strong first-half performance proved decisive as Clarecastle overcame Newmarket in their Division 3 Hurling League semi-final at Gurteen on Saturday. Playing with the aid of the wind, the Magpies ran up a tally of 0-19 and Newmarket were unable to match that in the second period. Seven players got on the scoresheet for the winners, with Pakie Healy leading the way with 0-8 while Andrew Page and Gareth Barry each hit four points. Liam Clancy was Clarecastle’s goalscorer on the day. Late scores seal final place for Kilmurry

  Kilmurry Ibrickane 0-12   Doonbeg 0-11 A TRIO of late, yet pivotal, points from Seamus Murrihy, Aidan Moloney and Niall Hickey helped Kilmurry Ibrickane to squeeze into next Sunday’s O’Gorman Cup final in Doonbeg. Murrihy’s point tied the teams at 0-10 apiece, while Moloney angled over a tricky 21-yard free, won by substitute Evan Talty. Moloney was brought on for Ciarán Morrissey five minutes from time and his left foot proved very useful to the holders, when they won that free. A couple of minutes later, Hickey kicked his sixth free, establishing a two-point lead and while Paul Dillon pointed from a dead ball with the game’s second-last kick, Doonbeg needed a goal to win it in injury time. Both teams were without their respective county players but produced an intense, very competitive hour’s football. Cooraclare 2-18   Clondegad 0-5 AT their ease, Cooraclare advanced to the O’Gorman Cup final in Kilmihil last Saturday evening. Although they kicked 11 wides, including eight while playing with the breeze in the first half, Cooraclare were completely dominant throughout.
