CAHERCALLA Hospice, St Clare’s School and St Anne’s School are the beneficiaries of this year’s mayoral fundraising event.
The outgoing Mayor of Ennis, Councillor Frankie Neylon presented cheques to representatives of each of the three facilities in Ennis Town Council on Tuesday.
The fundraising event raised €2,010 and Councillor Neylon chose the beneficiaries of the funds.
“It is funny that we ended up in 2010 with €2010. Basically, the event had raised €2,000 and one of my fellow councillors handed me €10 more to match the money with the year,” Councillor Neylon said.
In previous years, the mayoral event had traditionally been a Mayor’s Ball, but given the economic pressures facing people currently, a decision was made by Mayor Neylon and Ennis Town Council to scale the event down this year, in a bid to encourage more people to attend, enabling more funds to be raised.
Councillor Neylon said that he was very proud to hand over funds to the Cahercalla Hospice, St Clare’s School and St Anne’s School.
“All three facilities do wonderful work and deserve any funds that come their way. It is our way to say thanks to them for all that they do for the people they serve,” he added.
