SHANNON Town Council overshot its budget by over €15,000 last year.
In a document presented at Tuesday evening’s council meeting, it showed that the council had spent over €27,000 on an environmental plan, which had not been budgeted for.
It stated that, “Expenditure on the council’s revenue account for the year amounted to €158,391.12. The budget estimate for 2012 was €145,000. The principal factor for this over-expenditure relates to works undertaken as part of the Shannon Town Integrated Environmental Plan, which was approved at the March monthly meeting of Shannon Town Council, held on March 6, 2012.”
There was a very small amount of over expenditure on audit fees, of €415.70 on light, heat & power, of €120 on contingencies and of €27,099 on the environmental plan.
It stated that there hadn’t been any capital expenditure last year.
“There was no expenditure on the Council’s capital account during 2012. Annual budget provisions for local elections and the community initiative fund totalling €11,500 were transferred to the capital account. At year end the capital account showed a credit balance of €34,682.04.”
The accounts also showed that when all items were taken into account the council’s closing balance was €80,241.26 down from an opening balance of €92,228.87.
