With this year’s theme ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ local businesses and shop owners made a huge effort towards brightening up the town. Throughout the county capital, shop windows dazzled with decorations and lights helping to spread the Christmas spirit.

This year saw 40 entries to the competition for local businesses and shop owners, the highest ever number of entrants.

On Wednesday, the winners of the annual competition were presented with their prizes. Taking first place of a €1,000 advertising voucher for The Clare Champion was Western Garages on the Quin Road whose vivid display of lights delighted the judges.

In joint second place were Eye Candy and the County Boutique who were each presented with an advertising voucher worth €300. Sharing third place were Cahill Opticians and Duffy’s Pharmacy who were presented with €200 vouchers.

Clare Champion director Shelly Galvin said, “This competition is about promoting shopping locally and it is fantastic to see so many businesses and shop owners getting involved this year. We had 40 entries, which is our highest ever and the effort that has been made is just enormous.

“We are delighted to see these windows helping to brighten up the town and also we are happy to give something back to the whole community. The judges were hugely impressed by the care and attention that was put into each and every entry. This year, there was only a few points separating the winners. This competition has really captured the imagination.”

Commenting on Western Garages’ overall win she said, “Their display was out of this world. I would urge people to go out and see it, particularly at night-time when the lights are on. They worked with the theme across all of their windows with a lovely old style.”
