Ennis student award winning help for ELVES

AN Ennis art student has drawn on his talents to be named among the winners of a video animation competition. ELVES, the End-of-Life Vehicle compliance scheme and Limerick School of Art & Design LIT have announced the winners of their recent joint video animation competition. The purpose of the contest was to help ELVES www.elves.ie raise awareness about how End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) in Ireland should be processed properly. Mikey Cashell from Ennis was one of the winners in the competition. As the compliance scheme for the End-of-Life Vehicle sector, part of ELVES remit is to create public awareness about how people should correctly scrap their cars and small vans, once they are no longer roadworthy.  To help achieve this aim, ELVES partnered with Limerick School of Art and Design LIT to task some of its students with creating commercial standard video animations which would best convey this message. UL named University of the Year 2019

The University of Limerick has been named University of the Year 2019 in the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Alastair McCall, Editor of The Sunday Times Good University Guide outlined that the University of the Year status is well deserved and marks its second success in five years in receiving the title. “The University is at the economic heart of this Mid West city and the wider region, attracting brains and resources in equal measure. Its graduates are among the most employable in Ireland, prepared for work by practical courses and a work placement and internship programme second to none, which spans 1,600 employers at home and overseas,” he said. UL’s leading position in graduate employability, its cooperative education and internship programmes, its research in partnership with industry and the opening of the €31million new Glucksman Library were among the many reasons for the award. Quin student helps to make history

A Quin student has entered the history books after helping a University of Limerick team to top honours at an international engineering and commerce competition in Montreal. David Monaghan and his three University of Limerick (UL) team members – Limerick duo David, Patrick Lu and Eoin Hann and Darren Feehily from Tipperary – became the first team outside of Canada to claim the top award at the International Engineering and Commerce Case Competition (ECCC). David and his team were flying the flag for Europe, with the other 11 teams hailing from North America and the Middle East. As well as winning the overall title, the UL team won Best Engineering Solution and Best Sustainable Solution honours. The team had to create innovative solutions in three different tasks. These included creating a data centre design and strategy, designing a solution for a tunnel based on hyperloop technology and developing a strategy for the autonomous vehicle market.
