Special meeting to hear reports from team managers

There will be a special meeting  of Clare GAA in two weeks time (Tuesday September 27) when reports from the outgoing hurling and football team managers will be presented. This decision was arrived at when delegates attended the October meeting of the board at Clare GAA’s centre of excellence in Caherlohan this Tuesday evening. It had been expected that a number of inter county team managements for 2017 would be put before the meeting for ratification but chairman Joe Cooney explained that they weren’t in a position to propose any management team but he hoped to have proposals for the October meeting. “We haven’t got to meet the senior football manager but he contacted me last night and we will be meeting later this week. We have met with the outgoing hurling manager and he  has still to make a final decision”, the chairman explained. Club fixtures to go ahead

  ROUND 2 of the Clare senior hurling championship will go ahead as scheduled this weekend after the clubs of Clare rejected an appeal from senior hurling manager, Davy Fitzgerald to have the games postponed. At a specially convened meeting at GAA headquarters in Clareabbey last evening, board chairman Michael McDonagh called on all present to conduct a good debate before saying that he didn’t want any divisions. He said he was not going to allow the players to get involved and the meeting was called folowing a request from the senior management to have the round 2 games deferred. Crusheen manager John Carmody read a statement to the meeting on behalf of a number of club managers. He said that club hurling managers representing Newmarket, Inagh-Kilnamona, Cratloe, Crusheen, Kilmaley, Clooney-Quin, Clarecastle, Ballyea, Eire Og, Tubber and Tulla  had met at the West County on the previous evening. Special GAA meeting to decide on fixtures

  A special meeting of Clare GAA this Tuesday night at Clareabbey at 8p.m. will decide whether or not to proceed with the round 2 senior hurling championship games which are scheduled for this weekend. By rule, senior inter county players are entitled to be free from games for 13 days prior to a championship fixture. There is a 50-50 chance that Clare will be in action in the Qualifiers on Saturday/Sunday week but it won’t be known until next Monday which weekend Clare will be playing. It is understood that a request has been made to Clare GAA on behalf of the players to have the club fixtures deferred. A number of clubs, however, have indicated to the board that they want the games to go ahead this weekend. A meeting of club managers took place on Monday night where a majority are understood to have voted in favour of the club fixtures going ahead as scheduled this weekend. …
