Shannon lands Aero-Zone HQ

One of the world’s leading operators in the aircraft parts industry, Aero-Zone, is to launch its European headquarters in the Shannon Free Zone, it has been confirmed. Aero-Zone, Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chandler, Arizona based Aero-Zone, which has been providing new and aftermarket parts for commercial, corporate and general-aviation aircraft since 1994. Shannon Airport Authority chairman Rose Hynes said, “Aero-Zone, Ltd is part of a dynamic and growing cluster of over 40 aviation companies that employs 1,600 people here at Shannon. Its decision to locate its European headquarters here to service its Europe and Middle-East customer base is another vote of confidence for the continued development of our International Aviation Services Centre (IASC) at Shannon. “There is an impressive list of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) companies based here and we look forward to working with Aero-Zone into the future as they grow operations here.”

Another feather in Shannon’s cap?

AERCAP, a Dutch company which employs 50 people in Shannon, is about to complete the acquisition of International Lease Finance Corporation and plans to re-domicile billions of euro worth of assets to Ireland. The company, when contacted on Wednesday, wasn’t in a position to say how the move would impact on its Shannon operations. When the separation of Shannon from the Dublin Airport Authority was announced last December, it was predicted that 3,000 to 5,000 jobs would be created within five years in aviation related industries. On Tuesday, Patrick Edmond, director of Group Strategy for Shannon and managing director of the Shannon International Aviation Services Centre, tweeted a link to a news story on the plans to re-domicile the ILFC fleet to Ireland, which is understood to include 1,000 planes. He also tweeted a correction regarding another news story, which stated that Aercap is Dublin-based rather than Shannon-based.
