€240,000 worth of cocaine at Shannon

AN international investigation has begun following a massive cocaine seizure at Shannon Airport on Easter Sunday on an aircraft that had come from the US. As a result of routine profiling, officers from Revenue’s Customs Service seized 3.4kgs of cocaine, valued at around €240,000 at the airport. Their detection dog, Ollie, who has had a huge amount of success in tracking drugs over the last few years, was again involved. The drugs had been concealed behind a panel in the aircraft cabin.

€100,000 of cannabis seized in Kilmaley

Gardaí have seized five kilograms of cannabis in a planned search of forestry outside of Kilmaley. The discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon shortly after 4 o’clock. The drugs are estimated to be worth in the region of €100,000. The search was part of a continuing investigation into drugs in Clare and follows a number of other seizures in the county before Christmas. No arrests have yet been made in relation to the find.

Cree man in Court over €680,000 drugs haul

A 24 year old West Clare man has appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court today charged in connection with the seizure of almost €700,000 worth of cannabis. Ronan Clohessy of Crossfields, Cree, is charged with the possession of €680,000 worth of cannabis herb at QuerrinKilkee in County Clare and having the drugs for sale or supply on December 19. At the hearing before Judge Aeneas McCarthy Garda Trevor Shannon outlined that at 2.32pm on Friday he arrested the defendant on suspicion of having drugs for sale or supply at an address in Querrin. He then gave evidence of charging the accused with the offences before the court. Garda Shannon said the defendant replied “sorry” to one of the charges and made no reply to the other. Free legal aid was granted to the defendant. Detective Inspector John Galvin told the court the State had no objection to bail, subject to conditions. Court appearance following €70,000 drug seizure

An 18 year old has appeared before a special sitting of Ennis District Court this Saturday morning charged in connection with the seizure of approximately €70,000 worth of drugs. Ronan Carroll with an address at Cahermore, Cree is charged with possession of cannabis for sale or supply at an address at Beechpark in Ennis. Evidence of arrest charge and caution was given by Garda Brian O’Callaghan, who outlined that the defendant was arrested in Ennis on Thursday night. The defendant was granted bail and was remanded to reappear before Ennis District Court on January 21 next.

Two jailed for roles in Tulla cannabis operation

TWO men involved in cultivating cannabis with a potential value of €326,600 at a rented house in Tulla earlier this year have received jail sentences and could end up serving their time in a Polish prison. Rafal Ucinek (26) and Emil Sumczynski (24), both with an address at Miltown, Tulla, appeared before a sitting of Limerick Circuit Court on Friday last, where they were each sentenced on a charge of cultivating cannabis on January 13 last. Judge Carroll Moran imposed a four-year prison sentence on Ucinek and a two-year jail term on Sumczynski, which he ordered to be backdated to January 13 last, when they were first taken into custody. Judge Moran said the charge of cultivation carried a maximum sentence of 14 years, which “is a very considerable sentence”. €500,000 worth of drugs seized in South East Clare

Gardaí have seized almost half a million euro worth of drugs following two searches carried out in Meelick and O’Briensbridge on Tuesday night. The controlled substance has yet to be analysed but is believed to be heroin. The seizure was made by garda in Limerick and Clare arising from an ongoing operation into the sale and supply of controlled substances in the Limerick Division and in neighbouring counties. One man has been arrested and is currently being detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station in Limerick under drug trafficking legislation. He can be held for questioning without charge for up to a week.

Cannabis seizure at Spancilhill

GARDAÍ  seized a quantity of drugs and arrested a man in his 30s in Ennis last  night. In a planned operation, Ennis gardaí searched a house at Kilvoyden, Spancillhill and during the course of the search a quantity of cannabis herb, with an estimated street value (subject to analysis) of €200,000, was discovered. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and he is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. He can be detained for up to seven days. The scene remains preserved and a technical examination of the area will take place later today. This is the latest in a number of cannabis finds in Clare in recent times, while gardaí in other parts of the country have also had similar successes in the ongoing fight against drugs.

€1.3m cannabis plants seized

A SEIZURE of 240 cannabis plants in East Clare on Wednesday brought the approximate street value of plants found in separate garda searches around the county to €1.29 million in the past week. Gardaí seized 240 cannabis plants with an approximate street value of €190,000 at a house in Faha, Cahir at 2.30pm on Wednesday. The seizure was made as a part of an ongoing operation into the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the Clare area by the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit. There were no arrests as part of the search. The scene was being preserved for technical examination on Wednesday evening. Last Wednesday as part of an operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis, gardaí from Kilrish Garda Station searched a house at Breaffa, Carraigaholt, and discovered 600 plants growing and evidence of in excess of 500 harvested plants.
