Knockanean pupils to join Blazing Bows

BLAZING Bows combines three iconic fiddle players – Cathal Hayden, Dezi Donnelly and Tóla Custy – and the trio will be playing at Glór on May 11. Also playing will be Ed Boyd on guitar and John Joe Kelly on the bodhrán. These five will be accompanied by pupils from Knockanean school.

This unique and exciting band brings together some of the most respected traditional musicians from Ireland and England. Through their playing, these five musicians have become ambassadors for traditional Irish music around the world.

With three well-received solo albums to his credit, Cathal has earned his place as one of the country’s top fiddlers and his solo banjo performances are show-stopping. It will be a hometown gig for Tóla and his fiddle playing and compositions have resulted in the Custy name becoming synonymous with Clare fiddle music.

Manchester-based Dezi’s solo album, Familiar Footsteps, is recognised as one of the great traditional fiddle albums.

Ed Boyd and John Joe Kelly are two of the most sought-after rhythm and backing musicians on the folk scene.
