THREE comedy acts in one show are coming to Glór next week.
Young, Gifted and Green showcases some of the country’s most talented and popular young comedians, many of whom regularly headline shows in their own right.
Each gig features three acts. The three up-and-coming comedians, Colm O’Regan, Eleanor Tiernan and Dermot Whelan, have been described as the future of Irish comedy.
Colm O’Regan has been in comedy for the last four years and, in that time, has progressed to being one of the most sought-after stars of Irish comedy. He has played all the festivals – Edinburgh, Kilkenny, and the prestigious invite only Montreal Just For Laughs. He has played all over Ireland and the UK and even as far away as Tokyo and Osaka. Colm is also a regular at the Laughter Lounge in Dublin, which describes him as having a “PhD in stand-up comedy”.
His TV and radio credits include the Paramount Comedy channel (World Stands up), RTÉ 2’s Just for Laughs, The Lucy Kennedy Show as well as writing for and featuring on RTÉ Radio 1 and Newstalk.
Eleanor Tiernan is from Athlone. Since starting comedy she has performed at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, the Galway Comedy Festival, in Best of Irish at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, at the BudLight Comedy Revue and was a semi-finalist in the Paramount Comedy’s So You Think You’re Funny? competition. Within just a year of starting stand-up, Eleanor was asked to perform in Dublin’s Vicar Street for the RTÉ production The Liffey Laughs, and BBC’s One Night Stand-up. She also made her solo show debut at Edinburgh in 2008 to critical acclaim.
Dermot Whelan is best known for his regular appearances on RTÉ’s hit show The Panel and has performed at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Other TV appearances include Liffey Laughs for RTÉ television and One Night Stand-Up for BBC TV.
Dermot also hosts a weekday breakfast show on the Dublin radio station, 98FM, and has made radio appearances on BBC’s The Blame Game. His comedy creation, the Toll Trolls, have had three top 10 albums and went double platinum. He is especially proud of his acting success. He appeared in the 2003 Irish comedy classic Spin the Bottle as a garda. He had two lines: “C’mon now, son” and “Move out of the way there, son”.
The comedy gig takes place on Friday, April 23 at 8pm. Tickets are available from Glór on 065 6843103.
