West Clare title for Kilrush

THE curtain came down on the West Clare Divisional Board’s season when the U-15A and B football finals were played in ideal weather conditions last weekend.
At Kilrush on Saturday afternoon in the B final, the amalgamation of Naomh Eoin/O’Curry’s were victorious over the amalgamation of Shannon Gaels/Killimer and on Sunday Kilrush, who were defeated finalists last year, overcame Lissycasey in the A final played at Coolmeen.

Kilrush 4-7 Lissycasey 0-7

Lissycasey were first to register on the scoreboard in the tie with a point by Cillian Normoyle from a free in the second minute. Ten minutes had elapsed when Jack Browne goaled for Kilrush. Later, Conor Finucane added two points for Lissycasey and Liam Madigan had a point for Kilrush, leaving the half-time score at 1-2 to 0-3 in Kilrush’s favour.
Liam Madigan goaled for Kilrush at the start of the second half, followed by points by John Kelliher and Gearóid O’Brien. Lissycasey responded with points from Seamus Collins, Cillian Normoyle and Conor Finnucane. Kilrush began to dominate halfway through the second half, Liam Madigan was on target with a goal and point, while Michael Linnane scored 1-0 and Con Ellis 0-1.
Kilrush goalie Michael Shannon denied Lissycasey a number of goal scoring opportunities.
After the game, Anne Hayes, secretary of the West Clare Board presented the shield to the winning captain, Michael Linnane.

Naomh Eoin/O’Curry’s 1-9 Shannon Gaels/Killimer 1-7

This was a very even, close contest and credit to both teams for producing a very high standard of football. Shannon Gaels/Killimer will regret having 12 wides and the fact that they were trying for goals instead of opting for points.
Cian Culligan, Shannon Gaels/Killimer, opened the scoring with a point in the fifth minute and he later added a goal and a point.
Liam Keating got Naomh Eoin/O’Curry’s off the mark with a goal, with Thomas Crotty and Niall Bonfield adding points minutes later. Wesley O’Shea and Alan Behan added one point each to the Shannon Gaels/Killimer tally, as did Liam Keating and Sean Murphy for Naomh Eoin/O’Curry’s. The half-time score was 1-6, 1-4 in Naomh Eoin/O’Curry’s favour.
The second half followed a similar pattern with both teams scoring three points each. Dillon O’Farrell (0-2) and Nigel Murray scored for Naomh Eoin/O’Currys, while for Shannon Gaels/Killimer, Thos Kenny, Alan Behan and Cian Culligan were on target.
After the game, board treasurer Seán Chambers presented the shield to the winning captain, Niall Bonfield.
