Tuohy to be new Clare soccer chairman

NEWMARKET’S Paul Tuohy will be the next chairman of the Clare and District Soccer League. He will be the only candidate for the post at next Monday’s annual general meeting which will take place at the West County Hotel at 8.30pm.
He is one of two nominees for the post but Donie Garrihy from Burren United has confirmed that he will not be a candidate on this occasion.
“Unfortunately, because of work commitments, I am not in a position to allow my name go forward,” Garrihy told The Clare Champion on Wednesday.
The Burren United official will, however, be seeking re-election as vice-chairman of the league and while there are other nominees, Garrihy will be returned as Frank Healy has confirmed that he will not be challenging for this post. The other nominee for this position is Paul Tuohy, a former holder of the post, who is to be the new chairman.
Oliver Fitzpatrick (secretary), Michael Lydon (fixtures secretary) and Michael McInerney (treasurer) are the only nominees for these positions and all have indicated they will remain for another season.
Fitzpatrick has confirmed that he is not seeking re-election as PRO and Gerry Scanlon from Hermitage is expected to be elected to this position.
There is likely to be a contest for registrar between outgoing officer Frank Healy and Leo Murphy from Bridge Utd.
Contests are also expected for the posts of FAI and MFA delegates this year. Oliver Fitzpatrick, Donal Magee and Jim Madden have been nominated for the FAI delegate position but Fitzpatrick has intimated that he will not be a candidate.
“I have been involved a long time and I am anxious to help the league in the promotion of the game,” Donal Magee told The Clare Champion. He went on to say that he plans to contest at least one of the positions and didn’t rule out going for both.
Jim Madden is the outgoing FAI delegate for the county and he will be seeking re-election.
Donal Magee, Tomás Leahy and Jim Madden have been nominated for the MFA position while Madden has also been nominated for the post of president which is an honorary position.
Finally, Jason Ryan from Kilrush has been nominated for the youth liaison officer position which is a new post on the league.
