Tuning up for Mountshannon traditional music festival


The inaugural Mountshannon traditional music weekend kicks off next Friday to Sunday September 24-26 in conjunction with the Mountshannon Hotel and is organised by Cliodhna Donnellan.
The event follows the popular Tulla Trad Festival, which drew to a close this past week. The programme for the weekend’s events opens with four varying events across Mountshannon from 10pm.
The Bridge Bar will first host a music session with Denise Glass and Aisling Mulhern. Seamus Bugler, Cliodhna Donnellan, Michael Hackett, Larry Ryan and friends will be in the Mountshannon Hotel for a further session. Keanes Bar hosts a music session with Tom Ryan and friends while Martin O’Brien, Laura O’Brien, Michael Hopkins and JJ Moroney will be in Spuds Place also from 10pm.
The festivities continue on Saturday from 2pm where the Mountshannon Hotel will host a singing session with Michael Scanlan along with guest singers Paula Carroll, Michael Hackett and many more.
There will be lively dance that night also at the hotel from 10pm featuring The Merriman Ceílí band. Music sessions will also continue from 10pm at Spuds Place which will offer music with Patricia Clark, Sean O’Fearghail, Michael Hackett and graduate musicians from the MA in Traditional music from University of Limerick. Meanwhile, Tom Ryan and friends will entertain at Keanes Bar.
The festival concludes on Sunday from 3pm at the Bridge Bar where a music session will be held and include a number of the featured musicians throughout the weekend.
