Three people have appeared before a sitting of Ennis District Court charged in connection with an incident outside the Holy Family Infant School on Tuesday afternoon.
Conor Mahon, 21, with an address at Ballaghboy, Quin Road, Ennis is charged with having a slash hook in his possession, which had a blade or that was sharply pointed, at the Holy Family School on Tuesday, March 20.
He is also charged with a breach of the peace on the same date.
Mr Mahon’s wife, Rose, 22, of the same address, is also charged with using threatening abusive or insulting behaviour with intent. She is further charged with causing criminal damage to windows of a vehicle to the value of €1,500 belonging to Thomas Sherlock on Station Road, Ennis, also on Tuesday.
Mrs Mahon’s sister Laura Molloy, 21, of An Pairc, Bruach na hAbhainn, Ennis also appeared before the court charged with criminal damage and with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour with intent at Station Road, Ennis.
Separately, Conor Mahon is charged with the burglary of Johnno’s Bar on the Quin Road on a date unknown between February 25 and February 26 last, where it is alleged he stole 48 cans of Bulmers cider.
The court heard that when he was arrested, charged and cautioned with the burglary, he responded “I’m sorry”.
In relation to the incident outside the Holy Family School, Garda Trevor Shannon said that when charged the defendant made no reply.  Evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by Garda Shannon in relation to Rose Mahon who replied “I’m sorry” after caution on both charges, while no reply was made after caution to either charge by Laura Molloy.
Inspector Tom Kennedy said there was a garda objection to bail and Daragh Hassett, solicitor for all three defendants, formally made an application for bail.
Judge Patrick Durcan heard the bail application and ordered that Conor Mahon and Laura Molloy be refused bail and remanded them in custody until March 28 next.
He also remanded Mrs Mahon to the same date with consent to bail on her own bond of €500 and one independent surety of €1,500. Her father was approved as surety.
Bail conditions were also imposed by the court that she have no direct or indirect contact with the witnesses or injured parties in this case; that she stay away from the Holy Family School, its environs and staff; that she stay away from two named addresses in Ennis; that she reside at Ballaghboy, Quin Road, Ennis and that she observes a curfew between 9pm and 7am.
She is also required to sign on twice weekly at Ennis Garda Station.
