Kilrush Choral Society’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado will be presented in Kilrush Community School from next Tuesday until Saturday, April 10.
The group has been rehearsing since October for this year’s show, which features Edel O’Brien as Katisha. This is the Kilrush society’s sixth production.
The group was founded by Geraldine Rush, Michael Aiden Donnellan and friends. Michael Aiden plays Mikado this year, while Geraldine is again producing the show.
The musical director is Catherine Tobin, while the orchestra will be conducted by Michael Hennessy.
The Mikado is a light hearted burlesque of Japanese culture and the vagaries of love and is one of the most widely admired of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas.
The work has been translated into numerous languages and is one of the most frequently played musical theatre pieces.
Tickets for the production are available from 9051046 between 1pm and 5pm weekdays.
Aside from those who take to the stage, the production also includes backstage crew, make-up artists, hairdressers and many others who are giving their time and talent.
The curtain will go up at 8pm each night.
