Ennis fashion retailers rising to the challenges of Covid-19

THE personalised, customer-focused shopping experience that has become synonymous with the town of Ennis is still continuing despite the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The pandemic has resulted in retail closures throughout the county, with businesses increasingly focusing their efforts online in a bid to meet these new unprecedented challenges. The last few weeks have highlighted the importance of having an online shopping presence, according to Gwen Culligan of the County Boutique in Ennis. While Patrick Burke’s is set to launch a personal shopping service utilising popular apps so people can purchase while still maintaining social distancing. The County Boutique launched its website last year allowing people to buy the latest looks from the comfort of their own home. Gwen tells us they were “incredibly lucky” to already be online when the Covid-19 restrictions were introduced. “We’re selling every day at the moment. cancer support centre zooms in to help patients

ANXIETY among cancer patients has understandably increased during the Covid-19 restrictions, according to a local counsellor. Bridget Haren has revealed that cancer patients are very fearful of picking up the virus if they get any non-Covid-19 illness but still require hospitalisation. Another fear experienced by cancer patients is that their regular check-up or health appointment may be cancelled due to the restrictions. For the last seven years, Ms Haren has provided face-to-face counselling for cancer patients at the . the Sláinte An Chláir Centre in Kilnamona. Following the closure of the centre due to the national restrictions, she is now providing remote meditation and mindfulness classes using Zoom from her own home near Miltown Malbay for up to 20 patients for an hour on Tuesday and Thursdays. The first 30 minutes of the meditation class on Thursdays is devoted to discussion and medication questions for oncology nurse, Anne Murphy from Tulla, who also takes part in the Zoom class. Kilkee play Zooms into homes

IN what is believed to be a first, the Kilkee Playwright Festival will be bringing an award winning play directly into people’s homes using the increasingly popular app Zoom. Hot Potato Production’s play Just Guff by Jim Ward has been adapted for audio with script development and direction by Jenny Bassett. It will be broadcast into homes via Zoom this Saturday, April 11, at 8pm. And the good news for people looking for entertainment during the lock-down is the broadcast can be accessed for free. Director Jenny Bassett explains, “I used Zoom prior to Covid-19 and was amazed just how easy it was to use. No downloading, just click on a link just before the scheduled time and a page opened up and I was in a virtual meeting with people from around the world.
