Ennis’ Zainab Boladale appointed to DCU’s governing authority

ENNIS TV presenter and journalist Zainab Boladale has been appointed to Dublin City University’s governing authority. Currently working on RTÉ’s Nationwide Zainab was born in Lagos before growing up in the county capital. She graduated from DCU with a BA Journalism in 2017 and was named Journalist of the Year at the DCU Hybrid Awards and also nominated in the same category in the Union of Students in Ireland Student Achievement Awards. In that same year, she made her debut on TV as the presenter of RTÉ’s children’s programme, news2day and in doing so she also became the first Afro-Irish woman on Irish TV news. Past pupils in Ennis go back to school for virtual open night

A CHAMPION swimmer aiming for Olympic glory and an RTÉ presenter are just some of those who have gone back to school to take part in a virtual open night next week. As a result of Covid-19 the usual open night for Ennis Community College / Gaelcholáiste an Chláir is unable to go ahead. However that has not stopped plans to showcase the schools to prospective students with a virtual event going live at 12 noon on Monday. Principal Brian O’Donoghue revealed moving to an online platform has had advantages, giving the schools an opportunity to highlight the paths some past pupils have taken. Former students have created videos for the virtual event telling their own school experiences. Among those are Ruairí Mac Giolla Bhuidhe, professional swimmer aiming towards the Tokyo Olympics 2021, Zainab Boladale presenter on RTÉ Nationwide, Roisin O Fhallúin who achieved maximum points in the Leaving Cert, Donnie O’Keeffe local business man and software engineer Rezvee Sikder. …

Ennis woman joins RTÉ children’s news team

AN Ennis woman has become the newest face of RTÉ TV news. First-time television presenter Zainab Boladale is the latest addition to the news2day team. Following a call-out to media and journalism graduates across the country, and a comprehensive audition process, Zainab was chosen to join the team and began broadcasting live this week on RTÉ Two and RTÉ News Now. News2day is RTÉ’s news service designed specifically for children, featuring Irish and international news of interest to a young audience. Zainab studied journalism in Dublin City University (DCU) and has previously worked as a digital news reporter. In 2017, she was named Journalist of the Year at the DCU Hybrid Awards and was nominated in the same category in the Union of Students in Ireland Achievement Awards. Zainab was born in Lagos, Nigeria but has lived in Ennis since she was four-years-old. The 20-year-old went to primary school in Scoil Chríost Rí, Cloughleigh and spent the first three years …
