The public are being invited to have their say on the preparation of a new regional plan that will set out a framework for waste management in 10 countries 0ver the next six years. The Southern Region Waste Management Plan, which encompasses Carlow, Clare, Cork City, Cork County, Kerry, Kilkenny, Limerick City and County, Tipperary, Waterford City and County and Wexford, is one of three being developed in Ireland. It sets out a range of policies and actions in order to meet the specified mandatory and performance targets. The launch in Galway this week coincided with the commencement of a period of public consultation which will continue until January 30, while the regional waste management plans are expected to be finalised by the end of March 2015. “Most importantly the plan seeks to assist and support the community and local business to develop resource efficiency and waste prevention initiatives,” explained Philippa King, regional waste co-ordinator, Southern Waste Region. “A key plan target …

  Clare 3-11 Waterford 0-12 CLARE secured a place in next Sunday’s Munster semi-final following a comprehensive win over Waterford in the teams quarter-final replay. Second half goals from Shane Brennan and Rory Donnelly sealed the win. They were very much on top during the second period where they were inspired by Gary Brennan who played superbly at midfield. They will now play Kerry next Sunday in Cusack Park at 3.30pm. Clare started very slowly and in fact they trailed 0-4 to 0-0 after eleven minutes. However Waterford were dealt a savage blow in the second minute when midfielder Shane Aherne was black carded following a tackle on Martin McMahon. To make matters worse for Waterford his midfield colleague Tommy Prendergast was black carded three minutes before half time. THE Clare junior football team to play Waterford at 5pm on Saturday in Ennis was named on Friday night by manager Joe Garry. Gary Leahy (Wolfe Tones) will captain the team for the provincial quarter-final in Cusack Park. THE Clare senior footballers starting team and subs were named after training in Cusack Park on Thursday evening ahead of Saturday’s provincial quarter-final meeting with Waterford in Cusack Park. Four players will make their Munster championship debuts while Joe Hayes returns in goals at the expense of Pierce Deloughrey, who was in goals for the league campaign. Jamie Malone, Ciaran Russell and Martin O’Leary are pencilled in to make their championship debuts at midfield, wing back and in the full forward line respectively. Podge Collins will also make his Munster senior football championship debut. His brother Seán, who played championship in 2009, has been named at wing forward while his younger brother will wear number 15. Waterford 6-9 Clare 4-12 CLARE exited the 2014 Munster minor football championship in a thrilling tie at Fraher Field in Dungarvan on Tuesday evening. Both teams were committed to all out attack and notched some superb scores during 60 minutes of terrific attacking football, although the defending, at both ends, was not quite as impressive. Waterford scored a goal with their first attack when Joe Allen netted 13 seconds after his team won the throw in. That set the tone for a magnificent spectacle. Come half time the home county had added three more goals and led 4-4 to 1-4. Darren Nagle scored Clare’s first half goal with a top class finish while Evan Courtney, Liam Madigan and Keelan Sexton pointed some great scores. The second half was full of goals with Sexton twice netting for Clare, while Evan Courtney added the remaining goal. By Seamus Hayes Waterford 1-13 Clare 0-11 There was heartbreak for the Clare minor hurlers at Cusack Park on Wednesday evening when they went under by five points to All-Ireland champions Waterford in the opening round of the Munster minor championship. Everything pointed to a Clare win when the home side led by three points with just seven minutes remaining However, Waterford fired home three points in two minutes to level with five still to play and Clare were clearly rattled. Substitute Eddie Meaney made a huge impact for Waterford in the remaining time, hitting the lead point with three to play and sealing his team’s victory a minute later with the game’s only goal folowing a defensive error on Clare’s part. Clare must now look to the backdoor route in their search to get back into the title race. They will play Kerry on Wednesday April 23 with the winners of that tie then taking on the loser of …

Wolfe Tones will have three members on the team while Sixmilebridge, Clonlara, Inagh-Kilnamona and Kilmaley have two each. “This is a huge task for Clare, the biggest we have faced at this stage of the minor championship for some time. We have only a couple of last year’s panel in the squad while Waterford have a good sprinkling of their All-Ireland winning minor team while they won the All-Ireland under 16 title  two years ago”, Clare manager Eamonn Fennessy said. “Our goal is to give a performance and get these lads ready for the next step”, Fennessy added. By Seamus Hayes THERE are three debutants on the Clare senior football team for Sunday’s opening game in division 4 of the Allianz league when they play Waterford at Fraher Field in Dungarvan. Goalkeeper Pierce DeLoughrey (Cratloe) and corner forwards Martin O’Leary (Kilmihil) and Jamie Malone (Corofin) have been named in a team, which also includes six players who were not part of last year’s panel for a variety of reasons. The six survivors from last year’s panel are Martin McMahon and Enda Coughlan,  from Kilmurry Ibrickane; Gary Brennan (Clondegad), who is the team captain, Cathal O’Connor (Coolmeen), Shane McGrath (Thomas Davis, Dublin) and David Tubridy (Doonbeg). Dual player Sean Collins has been named at wing forward and the expectation is that his brother, Podge, also a member of the senior hurling squad,  will be on the bench.
