Sun to shine on Super 9’s

Following a successful inaugural camogie version recently, it’s the turn of the Under 15 hurlers from around the country to compete for the Super 9’s title in Gort GAA today (Tuesday, May 16th) from 10:30am. Hosted by Gort Community School’s transition year students as part of the GAA Future Leaders programme, the 9-a-side format will allow the players to showcase their talent as 16 teams including St Flannan’s College, St Joseph’s Tulla, St Kieran’s Kilkenny, Kilkenny CBS, De La Salle Waterford, St Colman’s Fermoy, Midleton CBS and holders Ardscoil Ris participate in the one-day tournament. The competition is open to the public and will have a carnival atmosphere as along with the on-field action, there are hurling challenges and food stands. Entry is €5 and it will be cash only at the gate. McKeever Sports will sponsor jerseys for the winning school in camogie and hurling, along with jerseys for best players in an All Star team selected from all …

O’ Meara and Murphy combine for St Joseph’s festive title win

Under 15 schools hurling final St Joseph’s Tulla 4-8 St Anne’s Killaloe 4-6 With school ending for the Christmas break the festive mood in St Joseph’s Tulla on Tuesday afternoon was suspended for an hour as the home side hosted St Anne’s in a hard hitting schools final and the second last game in this year’s series of competitions. St Joseph’s had to dig deep to take the laurels against a physical and committed St Anne’ side that in the first half took the chances that were offered up to them, However, the stiff breeze that backed the home side and a far greater defensive performance allowed St Joseph’s to take charge and despite a number of close shaves in the closing minutes held out for a two-point success. HURLING: Broadford secure final U-15 silverware

U-15B Hurling Shield Final Broadford 1-16 Corofin/Ruan 1-11 THE U-15 Hurling competitions finished in style in Glenomra Park on Wednesday evening when hosts Broadford secured a merited B Shield Final victory over Corofin/Ruan. Having lost this decider last year along with the U-14B Championship Final, it was an encouraging step in the right direction for Broadford who picked off some fine scores over the hour. Aodhan O’Driscoll, Michael Vaughan, Cormac Gunning and Hughie Vaughan were impressive marksmen while captain John Moran, Fiachra McNamara and goalkeeper Jack Lovett were others to shine for the home side. Corofin/Ruan who also suffered defeat in the Féile B Final, were without a handful of players but aside from an excellent leadership display from scorer-in-chief James Cullinan who raided for 1-9 along with Daniel Guinnane, Jack Lordan and Daniel McInerney, they found it increasingly difficult to match Broadford’s appetite and intensity.
