A WELL known hotel on the banks of Lough Derg has moved to clear the waters over confusion surrounding its location in view of national guidelines for people to remain in their own county during Level Three Covid-19 restrictions. The Lakeside Hotel, Ballina, Killaloe has confirmed their registered address with Fáilte Ireland is Killaloe, County Clare, even though the hotel are located just inside the Tipperary border and pay their commercial rates to Tipperary County Council. Straddling two counties and located just a short distance from the historic bridge linking Ballina and Killaloe, the hotel created something of a social media flurry when it posted government advice for people to stay in their own county. Manager, Eoin Little is a bit bemused by this “unusual situation” for the town, as he believes Killaloe and Ballina work together as one community, apart from Gaelic Games. “It is what you get from being in a twin town. Further searches were conducted and an additional six people have been arrested in relation to Operation Coronation, which was conducted by Gardai in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. Gardai have revealed that last Wednesday evening, further searches resulted in the recovery of €40,000 cash along with evidence relating to the sale and supply of controlled drugs. Eleven bank accounts were frozen containing in excess of €200,000. Three high-value cars were also seized along with evidence of the accumulation of wealth from suspected drug trafficking. A fourth car was seized for having no valid insurance. A further six people were arrested during the course of the evening. On Saturday morning a search was also conducted on waste ground in Prospect, Co. Limerick. Two firearms and an extendable taser baton were seized during the course of this search, all of which were concealed in plastic wrapping. FRIENDS and admirers of the late legendary Tipperary singer, Nora Butler, recalled the mark she left on East Clare, over her many years attending and performing at local musical events. Feakle’s Paula Carroll, presenter of The West Wind on Clare FM, recently remembered the Toomevara native, who passed away on May 3, with tributes coming from Gerry Shortt of Shortt’s Bar and Ballina-based singer Deirdre Scanlon. Nora was a frequent visitor to venues across Clare, through her work for Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann (CCE), as performer and adjudicator. She was particularly loved in the East of the county where she was a regular and popular guest, along with her late husband, Pat Swan, at gatherings in Spancihill, Tulla and Feakle. In his first local media interview, Chief Superintendent Seán Colleran, detailed his aspirations for policing in County Clare, how he will be keeping up the fight for resources and he will be taking a hard line on economic fraud. By Carol Byrne CLARE’S Chief Superintendent Seán Colleran has said while he would like to see the Clare Garda Division keep its individual division status, he said the public shouldn’t fear changes proposed under the Future of Policing Plan. Amid local concerns that the Clare Garda Division may be amalgamated with either Tipperary or Galway, the new Clare garda chief says any changes that are made are “designed to improve the service”. Unfortunately if that does happen it may mean that Clare could lose its chief superintendent. The Ballinasloe native says whatever happens there will “certainly be no reduction in services” for Clare. Clare 1-23 Tipperary 1-21 THE Clare hurlers scored an incredible, breathtaking win over Tipperary in Semple Stadium on Sunday. Clare didn’t lead until 90 seconds from the end of five minutes of injury time. Tipperary had led 1-21 to 1-20 three minutes into injury time. It was Clare’s first Munster championship win over Tipperary since 2003 and means that next Sunday’s final round game, at home to table topping Limerick, will have a place in the Munster final at stake. If Clare win they will qualify for the final. They currently sit on four points, one behind Limerick, while Cork, who play Waterford next week, are also on four points. Clare 1-9 Tipperary 2-4 ON a magnificent evening for Clare under-age football the county minor team qualified for their second successive Munster final, following a two point win over Tipperary in Thurles. The game started 22 minutes late due to the late arrival of the Clare bus at their pick up point in Ennis but they did the business on the field, particularly in the second half. Shane Meehan kicked the decisive points from play in the closing minutes, while Kevin Keane raised the crucial green flag for Clare following a Chibby Okoye pass. Tipperary led 1-2 to 0-4 at half-time, with Meehan pointing two crucial late frees, won by Mark McInerney and Thomas Kelly.
