Kilkenny end Clare’s 3 in a row dream

Kilkenny 2 Clare 1 Clare’s dream of a third successive Oscar Traynor title die at Frank Healy park in Doora this afternoon when a lively Kilkenny side emerged as deserving winners. With extra time looking likely, Kilkenny struck for what proved to be the winning goal when Emmett Nugent outpaced the Clare defence before cracking home the winner to the roof of Barry Ryan’s net. The Kilkenny player picked up a yellow card when he removed his jersey as he celebrated what proved to be the winning score. While the visitors enjoyed the major share of possession in the opening half, it was Clare who came closest to scoring. Just after the half hour mark Dave McCarthy’s effort rebounded off the crossbar with the Kilkenny defence beaten while earlier Gary O’Connell had his effort saved by the Kilkenny goalie Owen Wall. Hurling team shows three changes in personnel

The Clare team to play Kilkenny in round 2 of the National Hurling League on Sunday shows three changes in personnell and some positional switches from the side which lost to Cork in last week’s opening round. Ballyea du0 Tony Kelly and Jack Browne are now available due to their club’s preparations for the upcoming All-Ireland final while Shane Golden has been omitted. Into the starting line up come Oisin O’Brien at corner back, David Fitzgerald at midfield and Aaron Cunningham at wing forward. David Reidy switches to midfield while John Conlon moves to full forward. All-Ireland wining captain from 2013, Pat Donnellan, is named amongst the substitutes having missed all of last season due to a cruciate knee injury. Clare make three changes from All-Ireland line up

By Seamus Hayes The Clare team to play Cork in this Sunday’s Munster senior hurling championship semi-final at Thurles will show three changes in personnell from the team which started last September’s All-Ireland final replay, the last time that the teams met. Donal Tuohy, Jack Browne and Peter Duggan are named in the team in place of Patrick Kelly, Domhnaill O’Donovan and the injured Shane O’Donnell. Tuohy replaces Kellybetween the posts following some impressive displays in the league. Jack Browne, full back in the under 21 team last week, will wear the number 4 jersey with David McInerney named at full back and Cian Dillon in the right corner. Peter Duggan is named at left half forward with Colin Ryan on the ’40 and Tony Kelly named in the left corner.
