GALLERY: Thousands enjoy first South East Clare Show since 2019

IN the region of 6,000 patrons flocked to view or participate in the 30th annual South-East Clare Show in Bridgetown last Sunday. In fact, show organisers estimate gate receipts were 3% up from 2019, as thousands converged at the Bridgetown Showgrounds for what was described as an “amazing show”. It was the first opportunity in the last three years for the show committee to showcase local and national competitions due to Covid-19 restrictions. Show secretary, Yvonne McNamara said there was an exceptional entry growth in the home produce and horticulture section, which she believed was due to people having had the opportunity during Covid-19 lockdown to perfect baking and vegetable growing and associated knowledge. The show was opened by newly appointed Clare County Council chairman, Councillor Tony O’Brien as he was escorted through the grounds by members of the Mounted Garda Unit and traditional bag pipe player, Philip Doran before welcoming everybody. Thousands anticipated at South East Clare Show

THOUSANDS of people from all over the Mid-West will flock to participate in and watch competitions to mark the 30th annual South-East Clare Show at Bridgetown Showgrounds on Sunday, July 24. Some new additional activities have been introduced for families, children and patrons both in the leisure and competitive capacity as the Show celebrates three decades. With a total prize fund of €20,000 and more than 2,500 equestrian, cattle and horticultural entries expected, the 2022 Show will draw thousands of people to watch feature classes such as Champion of Champions in the Limousin Pedigree Cattle and a newly introduced Angus Section. According to the organisers, this show will provide a guaranteed enjoyable day out for families and their friends. South East Clare Show looks forward to 30th birthday

PRIZE money totalling €20,000 is up for grabs for competitors in the South-East Clare Show in Bridgetown on Sunday, July 24. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the show will attract thousands of people for more than 2,500 equestrian, cattle and horticultural entries, feature classes, a pet farm spectacle, children amusements and face-painting. This year, there will be a new focus on farm safety for children using some toy-size farm machinery to demonstrate what can be done to stay safe. Entries increase for South-East Clare Show

ENTRIES in various categories for the 29th annual South-East Clare Show jumped by an impressive 50% in some cases, according to the organisers. Thousands of patrons flocked to the South-East Clare venue for what proved to be in the words of secretary, Yvonne McNamara a great value for money day out for all the family. While the weather conditions weren’t as good as last year, Yvonne estimates gate receipts were similar to last year as about 4,500 came through the turnstiles to enjoy a wide variety of competitions and side attractions. Disneyland characters, Mickey, Minnie and Winnie the Pooh added great colour and excitement to the proceedings as loads of people took a break to enjoy photographs with their children. Ms McNamara believes the Disneyland theme and competition, which was provided for a second successive year, helped attract another large attendance. Memory Man chronicles ’95 hurling success in Bridgetown

Jimmy Magee has vivid memories of Clare’s All-Ireland senior hurling success in 1995. The legendary sport and television personality was in ebullient form when he helped to launch a new website for the 25th annual South-East Clare Show in Tony Horan’s Bar, Bridegtown on Thursday night last. The legendary Memory Man can still hold an audience’s attention, judging by the response to his trip down memory lane during the launch. Italia ’90 and Clare’s thrilling All-Ireland victories in 1995 and ’97 were some of the key sporting moments he recalled on the night, to the delight of the large attendance. Speaking to The Clare Champion, Magee noted Clare enjoyed tremendous support from all parts of the country in the run up to the 1995 All-Ireland decider as, “what is seldom is wonderful”. Charlie has his paws on Bridgetown Show

AN award-winning Great Dane was one of the star attractions at the official launch of one of the major social events in South-East Clare. Charlie the Great Dane helped to launch the 24th annual South-East Clare Show in Bridgetown, with his three-year-old owner and best friend, Brianna Lync,h and her mother, Arabella Scanlan. This amazing dog, who captured the hearts of the country when The Clare Champion highlighted his uncanny ability to detect Brianna’s epileptic seizures up to 20 minutes before each episode, was coolness personified with all the hustle and bustle at the show launch. Charlie has already been honoured by the Irish Great Dane Club for his amazing sixth sense and also received a Great Paws Award for his services, which will be featured on RTÉ again in the coming weeks.
