10 out of 10 for ‘Bridge quiz buffs

When it comes to quizzes it seems pupils from Sixmilebridge National School have all the right answers. The quiz quarter of sixth class pupils – Sineád Cahill, Luke O’Halloran, Colin Kelly and Will Fitzpatrick- came out top of the class in the recent Avonmore Super Schools Quiz on Clare F.M. The quiz was recorded in St. Finnachta’s National School by Breakfast Show host Ciara Revins. The students were asked ten general knowledge questions and had ninety seconds to complete them. Answering all ten questions in a time of fifty-nine seconds, the fastest time in the history of the quiz, the team put themselves in pole position to win the title. However, they then had to ensure a six week wait as a further 36 schools faced the quizmaster and the clock before Ciara eventually broke the good news to them – their score had not been bettered. ‘Bridge raises fifth Green Flag

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, John Crowe returned to his alma mater last week to unfurl the school’s fifth Green Flag. He was assisted in hoisting the flag by Aoibheann Kennedy and Emma O’Connor, members of the Green Schools Committee. For a number of years now, Sixmilebridge National School has been participating in the Green Schools initiative, which encourages schools, pupils and families to learn about waste, conservation and sustainability. Every two years or so, they explore a new theme in order to apply for the renewal of their Green Flag. The theme for this year, their fifth Green Flag, was biodiversity and, through the biodiversity theme, students learned how they can all play a big part in protecting the natural world. Two senior members of the Green Schools Committee, Saoirse Downes and Aoibhe Ward Murphy, spoke on behalf of the committee.
