CONCERTS are back on the musical menu in Sixmilebridge, with the unveiling of a new schedule by the Sixmilebridge Folk Club. Renowned for organising the very successful annual Shannonside Winter Music Festival and a calendar of eclectic concerts throughout the year, the activities of the folk club were adversely affected by the pandemic and the sound of music in the village was temporarily silenced. All that is set to change as the committee has regrouped, and while it is not currently feasible to resurrect the festival in its past form, priority is being given to organising a series of concerts in Gleeson’s Bar in Sixmilebridge over the coming months. The first of these will take place on Friday, February 10 at 8pm. This concert will feature Brian Donnellan and Michael Landers and will be led by fiddle player Mark Donnellan from Kilmurry, who picked up his music from his father Francie, one of the original members of the Tulla Céilí Band. MORE than 1,000 people are expected to flock to Bunratty and Sixmilebridge for the annual Shannonside Winter Music Festival and visitors to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park will be in for some special performances as part of the line-up. The castle and folk park will play host a number of events on Saturday, January 17, from 12noon to 5pm, giving its visitors a flavour of all that the international music event has to offer. Each year, the Winter Music Festival showcases a variety of music genres and has been growing year-on-year both in popularity and in the diversity of the acts. For the fourth year-in-a-row, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park will play host to the best of this year’s talent across five venues. The acts change every hour and perform a 45 minute set each. By Carol Byrne SIXMILEBRIDGE Folk Club will host two concerts this month; the first on Wednesday next at the Mill Bar, and the second in the soon-to-be opened Kilkishen Cultural Centre. The new centre will be the venue for a folk club concert with the Mulcahy’s traditional music family  on May 16. Now in its 16th year, the folk club has changed venues many times, starting with McGregor’s in Sixmilebridge, then the parochial hall, followed by the Courthouse. They are now firmly established in Gallagher’s, Kilkishen, and also return on a regular basis to both Gleeson’s and the Mill Bar, in Sixmilebridge.
