Medical emergency forces unscheduled landing at Shannon

A flight which took off from Shannon on Sunday morning bound for Lanzarote, had to turn back due to a medical emergency on board. The Ryanair flight left Shannon at 8.20am, but had to return and landed at Shannon again at 9.46am. Members of the Shannon Airport fire rescue service and the National Ambulance Service were on hand to meet the plane which landed safely at 9.46am. A passenger was transferred to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. The flight resumed its journey to Lanzarote at 10.55am.

New services starting soon from Shannon Airport

HOLIDAY options from Shannon Airport are set for a welcome boost from next weekend as the airport launches three new Ryanair services to Fuerteventura, Birmingham and Budapest. The Fuerteventura service will commence on October 31 and operate weekly on Sundays. It will depart Shannon at 6.20am. A new twice weekly service to Birmingham will operate from November 1 on Mondays and Fridays departing Shannon at 7.40am both days. The new Budapest service operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays from November 3 will depart Shannon at 5.25pm and 7.45pm respectively. A new Turin service will commence weekly from December. These flights are part of a series of new services announced by Ryanair for their Winter season which included services to Gran Canaria, London Luton and Edinburgh which are already operating. Budget airline’s CEO has harsh words for government over aviation recovery policy RYANAIR launched eight new Shannon routes last Thursday morning and said it will carry more passengers to and from the airport over the next year than it did in 2019, before Covid struck. The airline’s CEO Eddie Wilson praised Shannon Airport’s management for being proactive in securing new services, and estimated around one million people will fly with Ryanair to and from Shannon in the next 12 months, up by around 25% on the 2019 figure. It announced six new services for the winter 2021 season, to London-Luton, Budapest, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Fuerteventura and Turin. New services already in place for the summer include Corfu and Gran Canaria. New services start at Shannon

TUESDAY saw the inaugural Ryanair Shannon-Corfu service, which will continue twice a week until the end of October. Also, on this Saturday a new weekly Ryanair service to Gran Canaria (Las Palmas) begins. Passengers on the first Corfu bound flight enjoyed a pre-departure reception in the airport’s transit lounge which was decorated in festive style. A special water cannon salute by the airport’s fire service added an extra sense of occasion on Tuesday, as airport staff welcomed passengers and looked after them throughout their time in the airport. New Shannon Canaries route as international travel resumes

WITH non-essential international travel resuming this morning, a new route out of Shannon Airport to the Canary Islands has been announced. Ryanair will run a new service to Gran Canaria (Las Palmas), beginning on August 7, that will operate once a week until the end of October. Welcoming the announcement Mary Considine, CEO, Shannon Group said: “As we rebuild from the devastation of the pandemic this is a positive announcement for the region. Ryanair refunds Tulla students after cancelled school tour

RYANAIR has delivered on a promise to refund a school group from St Joseph’s in Tulla, whose planned Transition Year tour to Barcelona last April had to be called off because of the pandemic. The repayments were confirmed by Deputy Cathal Crowe who said the money was received on Tuesday morning (March 16). Following the intervention of Deputy Crowe and Senator Timmy Dooley, Ryanair agreed to make the refund. The money went to the school who then repaid students and families. “Even though, following my intervention last month, Ryanair’s CEO Eddie Wilson agreed to directly refund the school so that they in turn could reimburse all parents, the reimbursement was delayed,” said Deputy Crowe. “This prompted me last week to engage with Ryanair to ensure that the matter would be brought to a conclusion. I’m delighted that there has been a successful outcome to this dispute.” Despite the successful outcome, Deputy Crowe described the delay, on Ryanair’s part, as “ridiculous”. …

Ryanair’s return to Shannon Airport will boost tourism – Mary Considine

THE reopening of Ryanair’s base in Shannon Airport on April 21 has been lauded as a major boost for tourism-related businesses throughout Clare, which have been very badly hit by Covid-19.
