Clare GAA star to feature in Shannon Mr and Mrs fundraiser

SHANNON Musical Society and Wolfe Tones are coming together for a fundraiser, which tests how well couples know each other. Entitled ‘Mr and Mrs’, it will be held at Wolfe Tones at 8pm on November 18 and Karen Barrett, chairperson of Shannon Musical Society, said it will be a very fun night. “It’s based on a TV show that was on in years gone by. A couple are brought onto the stage and then one of them is brought away while the other person is asked a series of questions. “The partner comes back and is asked the same questions and hopefully give the same answers! “There’s another round when they’re given a paddle, one side of it is pink and the other blue, they switch it over for the appropriate answer.” Karen said that there are some couples with links to the two organisations. “It’s a bit of fun really and while it’s a fundraiser for Wolfe Tones and …

Boost for Clare as Duggan and Hayes cleared to play Wexford

CLARE received a boost ahead of this weekend’s All-Ireland senior hurling quarter final against Wexford with news that both Peter Duggan and Rory Hayes have had their one-match bans overturned. The pair are free to play after the GAA’s Central Hearing Committee found a procedural issue regarding the suspensions set by the Central Competitions Control Committee following alleged off the ball incidents in the Munster final. Galway’s Cianan Fahy has also had his ban thrown out following an incident in the Leinster final. Galway had made an administrative query, regarding the legitimacy of meetings being held online which was supported by the CHC, so Fahy’s ban was rescinded. The  Clare bans were dismissed on the same basis.

Three Clare hurlers nominated for All Stars

THE hurling All Star nominations were announced this morning and there are three Clare men on the list, Rory Hayes, Tony Kelly and Cathal Malone. While not nominated for an All Star, Aidan McCarthy is on the three-man shortlist for young hurler of the year, alongside Eoin Cody of Kilkenny and Shane Barrett of Cork. All-Ireland champions Limerick have a full set of 15 players nominated and look set to dominate the team. In all nine different counties are included in the nominations. Uachtarán CLG Larry McCarthy said: “I want to congratulate all of those who have been chosen among this distinguished list of nominees for the PwC All-Stars.
