Traffic diversions in place this Friday and Saturday for essential works at Sixmilebridge

ESSENTIAL works will result in the closure of a road at Sixmilebridge this Friday and Saturday. Irish Water, working in partnership with Clare County Council advises that the works on the R462 at Ballyliddan West, Sixmilebridge require a road closure of this road from 9am on Friday June 25 until Saturday evening, June 26.  Traffic travelling north west toward Sixmilebridge on the N18 from Limerick city will continue toward Bunratty and take exit 7 for Hurlers Bridge/Sixmilebridge. Traffic travelling to Limerick City from Sixmilebridge will take the R471 toward Hurlers Cross and join the N18 at the Bunratty junction. According to a spokesperson for Irish Water, “Diversions will be in place and signposted on approach. There will be no through road at the works location, but crews will endeavour to maintain local access as much as possible. Plans afoot to close Ennis streets for outdoor evening dining

PLANS are underway to transform parts of Ennis town centre to allow evening outdoor dining, with hopes that it will lead to increased footfall and an economic boost to local businesses. An application is being made by the local authority for up to €200,000 in funding from the Outdoor Dining Enhancement Scheme announced by Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin TD and Fáilte Ireland. Ahead of a decision on the grant submission, the Ennis Municipal District has also announced plans to close roads to facilitate outdoor dining during the evening times. The roads set to be closed are Parnell Street, from Carmody Street to Woodquay Junction. Also Frances Street from the junction of Friary car park to Abbey Street, with access to the Friary car park to remain open. Road Closure Will Impact On Killaloe Residents

RESIDENTS in Killaloe and Ballina can’t use a regional road to travel to Birdhill and Limerick for the next two weeks. TIPPERARY County Council recently made an order to close a regional road on the outskirts of Ballina to facilitate preliminary works for the Shannon Bridge Crossing project. Following a public consultation process, the council has decided to close the R494 Ballina to Birdhill Road from 7 am on February 15 to 7pm on March 1. Traffic travelling to Ballina from Birdhill are advised to use an alternative route by proceeding along the R445 to its junction with R496, continue along the R496 to its junction with R494 and proceed on R494 to access Ballina. Traffic travelling to Birdhill from Ballina should proceed along R494 to its junction with R496, proceed along R496 to its junction with R445 and drive on the R445 to access Birdhill. Road closure at East Clare bridge

Cloontra East Bridge on the R471 Clonlara to Sixmilebridge Road is being closed at Cloontra East \ Mountrice with immediate effect until further notice as a result of structural damage and the requirement to undertake urgent remediation works in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993. Confirming the closure today (Monday), Clare County Council said the decision to temporarily close the bridge to all access by vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians is in being made in the interests of public safety. Clare County Council will issue further updates in due course regarding the emergency road closure, which is expected to remain in effect for a minimum of four weeks. The public are advised to use alternative routes.

Anger in Kilbaha at road closure

RESIDENTS in Kilbaha are angry that the main access road to the Loop Head village has been cut off. An 80 metre stretch of the road has been badly damaged in the recent storms and floods. The Kilrush Area Office of Clare County Council closed the road on Saturday morning February 1 in the immediate aftermath of Storm Bridget. The council said this was “to safeguard the wellbeing of the general public and motorists.” Bollards were put in place to provide pedestrian access along the seafront. An alternative route has been put in place to provide access to the Loop Head Peninsula west of Kilbaha. The road in Kilbaha was extensively damaged by Storms Christine and Bridget. “On Saturday evening it appears a member of the local community removed concrete bollards that had been put in place by the council. The council this morning once again closed off the road in the interests of public safety,” a county council statement issued on Monday …
