Cracking climate change creatively in Clare workshop

CLIMATE change and creative responses to it will be the subject of a week-long workshop for young people, taking place in Clare in July. The Rising Tide project was initiated in Lahinch last year by Alex Gill and Maeve Stone of Cracking Light Productions. The event, which took place in May of 2021, invited people to decorate small ceramic boats as a way of reconnecting as a community after lockdown. This year, Cracking Light is inviting young people aged between 14 and 18 to join a local event from July 11 to 15. The Clare-based workshops will involve musicians, filmmakers and artists. It will involve learning new skills and considering responses to climate change, and will put the focus on creating an artwork to be exhibited in Dublin in the autumn. Stage is set for Clare’s Cruinniú na nÓg events

CHILDREN and young people across Clare are gearing up for a celebration of youthful creativity on Saturday, June 12. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth plan. Among its local support organisations are Creative Ireland Clare and Clare County Council. Cruinniú is a component of the already well-established annual programme of activities organised by the Library and Arts Service for children and young adults. Recognising the cultural vibrancy in Clare, the Council has mobilised a strong Creative Ireland Culture Team to deliver the programme in the county. Helen Walsh, Clare County Library is the Creative Ireland Coordinator and Sheila Quinn is the Curator of the programme. Across the county, artists and creative practitioners have been busy working with young people to produce 24 events, which will be hosted online on June 12. A Rising Tide

      A RISING Tide, our 68-page special supplement for last Sunday’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final between Clare and Cork, received a very positive response, with messages of congratulations flooding in to all who were involved in the production. In this week’s issue, we have extensive coverage of the thrilling drawn final in addition to a preview of Saturday’s All-Ireland U-21 hurling decider between Clare and Antrim at Semple Stadium, Thurles. The throw-in is at 5pm. The curtain raiser, with a 3pm thrown-in, is the U-21 B final in which Kerry meet Kildare. Meanwhile, The Clare Champion will publish another supplement for the senior final replay. It will be included with the edition of Friday, September 27.
