Mid-West drug project benefits from Rural Recovery Fund

AN ADDICTION support project in the Mid-West is to benefit for a cash grants and non financial supports from Rethink Ireland with support from the Dormant Accounts Fund and Google.org. Rethink Ireland announced the Ana Liffey Drug Project (ALDP) as one of the recipients of the €600,000 fund  The fund was launched last October by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys. Its aim is to support organisations that are innovatively supporting people living in rural areas to access employment or education opportunities, improve their job readiness and build their resilience as we come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a particular focus on minority and underserved communities. ALDP will use the funds to tackle addiction, homelessness and other social issues across Clare, North Tipperary and Limerick. €650,000 fund announced for critical social innovation in the Mid West

A NEW €650,000 social innovation fund has been launched for projects in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary that empower communities, tackle poverty, and promote social inclusion. The Ignite Midwest Fund, the first of its kind specifically for the Midwest, has been created by Rethink Ireland in partnership with several private donors from the region including the Parkes Family Limerick, the Community Foundation for Ireland, and is matched by the Department of Rural and Community Development via the Dormant Accounts Fund. There will be a minimum of five awardees with the fund now open for applications until 29th March 2021. The Ignite Midwest Fund is the latest social innovation fund created by Rethink Ireland (formerly Social Innovation Fund Ireland), which has launched over 30 funds in the past five years totalling over €65 million. Irish Seed Savers seek ‘Community Seed Guardians’

COMMUNITIES across Ireland are being encouraged to grow and save their own seed together in a major new programme being launched by Scariff-based, Irish Seed Savers Association. The Community Seed Guardians Programme is a training and mentoring programme for communities across the country to grow and save their own food seed. The programme was developed with funding received through Rethink Ireland’s Innovate Together programme, which was established in response to Covid-19 to build resilience in communities. With growing awareness of climate change and fear over the limitations in the food supply chain brought into focus by the pandemic, the Guardian Programme will work with established community gardening groups to reduce Ireland’s reliance on imported food and food seed.
