Stolen limestone statues found in Cratloe

Four limestone statues which were stolen in Charleville eight years ago were found dumped on lands in Cratloe earlier this week. On July 18, 2011 four large limestone statues were stolen from Milltown Castle in Charleville. Two were statues of eagles which has been mounted on 10ft high pillars and the others were life size busts of William of Orange and Oliver Cromwell. The theft generated a lot of media interest at the time and an extensive garda investigation was carried out but the property was never found. Earlier this week a member of the public found four stone statues near a derelict outhouse on lands near Cratloe. The gardaí were contacted and a local garda remembered the original theft and connected the discovery of the property with the theft. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information about the theft or who has information about how the property ended up on lands in Co. Clare should contact Mallow Garda Station …

Body recovered from sea

Irish Coast Guard volunteers based at Doolin recovered the body of a woman, missing for several days, from the sea at the weekend. The body is believed to be that of a woman, from the Roscommon area, missing since her car was found abandoned near the Cliffs of Moher early last week. After recovering the body from the water, north of Doolin Pier, volunteers from the Doolin Coast Guard brought the body to the coast guard station from where it was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.

Body recovered in Bunratty search

A body has been recovered from the water in Bunratty on the third day of searches for a local man missing in the area. This morning, during the course of a search operation, the body of a man was recovered near Quay Island shortly after 11am this morning. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor and is being removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination later this afternoon. Gardaí say efforts are now being made to formally identify the man and that his death is being treated as a tragic accident. A large-scale search operation was launched in Bunratty on Saturday evening after concerns were raised for the well-being of a man, originally from Bunratty but living in nearby Sixmilebridge. Body recovered in search for missing student

The search for missing Ennis law student, Michael Bugler has been called off after a body was recovered from the sea near Ardfry Point in Oranmore this afternoon. Gardaí say an unidentified body was spotted about 20 metres from shore by a search party looking for the missing man. Twenty year old Michael Bugler, an NUI Galway student, had not been seen since Friday, December 18 in the Quay Street area of the city. Since his disappearance, gardaí and hundreds of people have been engaged in daily searches in the Galway area for the missing student. In a post of Facebook later that evening, Michael sister Laura said the family are “relieved to finally have Michael home”. She added, “On behalf of myself, my family and Michael’s friends I’d like to thank you all for your help and support over the last three weeks. Thankfully we are so relieved to finally have Michael home today”.

Body recovered from River Shannon

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Shannon near Ardnacrusha following a 12-hour long search and rescue operation. Emergency Services say the body is that of a man in his 50’s who was reported missing yesterday (Thursday) evening and was reportedly seen entering the water near Clonlara. The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, backed up by gardaí, fire service personnel and ambulance crews, last night conducted a search of a section of the River Shannon and the riverbank between Blackwater and Clonlara.
