Ennis brothel earns couple €1,200 a week

A MARRIED couple who were operating a brothel out of an Ennis property, were making €1,200 per week for offering prostituion services, Ennis District Court has heard. David Navvaro (20) and Celia Gallan (42) with an address at Drumroe, Rhebogue, County Limerick were collectively fined what would be a week’s earnings in the brothel. The couple, who have since moved to the east of the country, pleaded guilty to living on the earnings of prostitution, contrary to the Criminal Law Sexual Offences Act 1993. The charge states the defendants did knowingly live in whole or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person and aided and abetted that prostitution at a house at Station View on July 23, 2016. Jail term for Ennis brothel keeper

A BRAZILIAN native who showed a “complete flagrant disregard” for the law, after admitting to charges of brothel-keeping in Ennis and Limerick, has been sentenced to a total of eight months in prison. Aulicete Camargo Walsh of Breskabeg, Clarina, County Limerick appeared before Ennis District Court  charged with two counts of brothel-keeping and one of using a false instrument. She was charged that being the tenant/lessee/occupier/person-in-charge of a premises at 18 Bank Square, Bindon Lane, she knowingly permitted it to be used as a brothel for the purpose of habitual prostitution on May 9, 2016. She was also charged with using a Portuguese driving licence, which she knew to be a false instrument. The accused was also charged with running a brothel at 6 Crosley House, Dock Road, Limerick on May 27, 2016. Arrest in prostitution operation

A person has been arrested as part of an operation targeting prostitution in the Mid-West region, following Garda searches in Ennis and Limerick in recent weeks. Ennis gardaí involved in the operation carried out a series of searches of premises in the town and on the back of this, one person was arrested last weekend. A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution in relation to the matter. Clare gardaí are working in conjunction with other garda divisions across the Mid-West as part of the operation and their investigations are ongoing. By Carol Byrne
