Ennis Tesla driver returns from second Ukraine mission

AN Ennis man has returned from a second humanitarian mission helping Ukrainians – and their beloved four legged friends – flee the war with Russia. John Casey, founder of the Tesla Owners Group in Ireland, was among a convoy of drivers who recently brought 40 Ukrainian refugees along with 10 dogs, 11 cats and a guinea pig, from Poland back to Ireland. “We were a right little Noah’s Ark,” he tells us. He explains that the pets have helped to bring a sense of comfort to the refugees, reminding them of a life before the invasion. Travelling with the convoy of cars over land and by ferry meant they could bring their much loved animals with them to safety. “These people are great pet lovers and they are very reluctant to leave their pets behind. Clare group to bolster former Ennis residents’ war relief work

A LOCAL Ennis group has been set up to help Ukrainian refugees driven out of their country following the invasion by Russia. The group, Ireland Poland Ukraine Refugee Relief (IPURR) are fundraising to support their Polish friend Marcin Piotrowski, who lived in Ennis but now lives in Poland, 10km from the Ukraine border. Last week the Clare Champion detailed how Marcin and his wife Marina’s have been helping those fleeing Ukraine by providing vital supplies to those on the border as well as a place of refuge in their home. The members of the new group are Anna Labuda Scanlon, Mayor of Ennis Ann Norton, Kieran O’Loughlin, Frank Gormley, Ray Scanlon and Pat Rutherford Councillor Norton tells us, “Marcin has an excellent reputation in Ireland as a humanitarian. He has done trojan work in Ireland in helping to integrate his community into Irish society. “He started, amongst other things, the Polish Ireland Festival, which took place not only in Ennis …

Former Ennis residents running relief effort on Ukraine border

A FAMILY who left Ennis in recent years have opened their hearts, and their home, close to the Polish / Ukraine border to those fleeing the Russian invasion. Marcin Piotrowski and his wife Marina Sestasvili-Piotrowska who lived in Ennis for more than a decade with their children have been playing a key role in providing support to Ukrainian people escaping the conflict. As well as giving Ukrainians refuge in their guest house Chutor Gorajec in Poland, just a few kilmotres from the border, they have also been co-ordinating the gathering and distribution of vital supplies including food, tents, medicines and blankets for those still waiting to cross the border. Marcin and other volunteers regularly cross the border into Ukraine to bring donations to those in need, while Marina looks after those who have come to their guest house seeking shelter. Breen on trade mission in Poland

Minister for Employment and Small Business Pat Bren is leading an Enterprise Ireland trade visit to Warsaw, Poland today (Friday). The aim of the trade visit is to enable Irish suppliers to make new high-level business contacts in Poland’s ICT, services, retail and engineering solutions sectors. In 2015, Enterprise Ireland clients generated €247 million of exports to Poland, up from €243 million in 2014, representing a 2% growth. Minister Breen is to address a trade dinner attended by 65 companies, many of whom are Polish business partners and potential customers for Enterprise Ireland clients Mr Breen is to visit the Polish manufacturing facility of JFC, a company based in Tuam, County Galway, which designs and manufactures plastic products for the agriculture, construction/civils, aquaculture and marine and material handling. Also on the agenda was a meeting with members of the Global Irish Network in Poland at a breakfast hosted by Gerard Keown, the Irish Ambassador to Poland.
