One change on Clare hurling team

The Clare team to face Kilkenny in round 2 of the Allianxz hurling leaguye at Nowlan Park tomorrow, Sunday shows one change from that which beat Tipperary last week. Podge Collins will start at corner forward in place of his Cratloe clubmate Conor McGrath, a change that was made at half time last week. The substitutes list will see Patrick Kelly and Eoin Quirke replace Ronan Taaffe and Cathal O’Connell Otherwise the team is unchanged ans is Donal Tuohy (Crusheen); Jack Browne (Ballyea), Conor Cleary (Miltown St.Josephs), Patrick O’Connor (Tubber) Captain; David Fitzgerald (Inagh-Kilnamona), David McInerney (Tulla), Seadna Morey (Sixmilebridge); Colm Galvin (Clonlara), Tony Kelly (Ballyea); Cathal Malone (Sixmilebridge). Winning start for Clare hurlers

Clare 2-24 Kerry 1-15 Clare have made a winning start under new management duo Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor, beating Kerry in the Munster hurling league at Austin Stack park in Tralee. Kerry were well in contention for over three quarters of this tie but the visitors pulled away in the closing minutes and eight unanswered points sealed a merited victory over a Kerry side that showed some great skill in the opening half. Clare’s sharpness helped them to a four point lead at half time when the score was 1-12 to 0-11. Kerry led briefly after eight minutes when the score was 0-3 to 0-2 but Clare hit the next five points while conceding one to open a four point lead. They were five up after twenty minutes but the home side fought back and hit four in a row to level the tie at 0-10 each on the half hour mark, the levelling score coming from Clarecastle man Patrick …

Podge named in team to face Kilkenny

Dual player Podge Collins is back in the Clare senior hurling starting line up and will line out against Kilkenny in Sunday’s Allianz hurling league semi-final. Eleven months after suffering a cruciate knee injury and two years after he last played senior hurling for Clare, the Cratloe man has been named at corner forward to face the All-Ireland champions. Collins’ return is one of three changes in personnell from the side which started against Tipperary in the quarter final. Oisin O’ Brien returnes at corner back while David Fitzgerald is also in from the start. They replace Ciaran O’Doherty, Conor Ryan, who is ruled out due to injury, and Bobby Duggan. Tony Kelly will, it is understood be amongst the substitutes along with Colin Ryan. Collins was one of the stars in Clare’s All-Ireland win in2013 and was short listed for the player of the year award. Podge Collins returns as Clare win again

Clare 2-28 Kerry 1-9 After an absence from the game of almost ten months, Podge Collins returned to action on Sunday when he played the last half hour of Clare’s easy win over Kerry in round 4 of the  Allianz hurling league, division 1B. A strong third quarter in which they scored 1-8 without reply saw Clare maintain their 100% record this year. there was never a doubt about the result as the Bannermen dominated from the off and the way is now clear for next Sunday’s final group game against neighbours and arch rivals Limerick, the outcome of which will determine which team will be promoted to divison 1 A for next season Clare took the lead after just fifteen seconds when David Reidy pointed and went on to lead by eight points with just fifteen minutes played. Twelve All-Ireland final starters to face the Cats

By Seamus Hayes Twelve members of Clare’s All-Ireland final replay starting line up have been named in the starting team to face Kilkenny at Cusack Park in the opening round of the Allianz league on Sunday Left out of the side from the September line up are goalkeeper Pa Kelly, defender Domhnaill O’Donovan, hero of the drawn tie having scored the equalising point in injury time, and forward Podge Collins who was one of the three nominees from which the hurler of the year was chosen. There had been speculation in recent weeks as to whether or not Collins would be included in the side following his decision to join the senior football panel this season. After two rounds of the football league, Clare are unbeaten and Collins has played a key role in helping them to a win and a draw.
